200-Hour RYT Training that includes Suspension Yoga™

Become a certified yoga instructor in a learning and supportive environment. Our instructors will provide you with more than enough information to make sure you feel confident about going out into the world to teach your own classes. This unique course curriculum consists of a comprehensive 200-Hour Canadian Yoga Alliance Accredited program, that combines traditional yogic philosophies and techniques with the contemporary strategies and aerial techniques of Suspension Yoga™. The training focuses on providing teacher-trainees with an enhanced skill set that will equip them to expertly address the many interests and changing needs of a rapidly evolving yoga culture while also providing the established practitioner the opportunity to expand their horizon and take their practice to flight!
At The Flying Yogi, we strive to support our trainees with teaching opportunities when possible and encourage them to share the power and magic of yoga within their communities.
Basic RYT Course Overview
Students participating in this RYT Training will receive a strong foundation in Asanas & Vinyasas, Anatomy & Alignment, Adjustments & Modifications, Philosophy & Iconography, Meditation & Pranayama, Ayurvedic Principals and Practices plus Suspension Yoga™aerial training.
Basics of Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Partner/Acro Yoga and Chair Yoga will also be taught.
THE FLYING YOGI COURSE FEES ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
The Flying Yogi is recognized by the Federal Government as a “Certified Professional Educational Institute”
What this means is that those enrolling in our Teacher Training Programs may claim their tuition and text books as tax credit. Tuition Fees are also eligible for student loans and local grants
Canadian Yoga Alliance accredited training facility. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be certified as RYTs at the 200-Hour level and eligible to join The Canadian Yoga Alliance.

The following workshops compose part of the 200 Hr RYT Program. Teachers or students not registered for the 200 Hr program who wish to further expand their personal or professional development may also enrol in any of these course modules which are eligible as Continued Education Credits with Yoga Alliance. Learn to mindfully relate your anatomical knowledge to your yoga practice as taught by Leslie Kaminoff. This module introduces students to the fundamentals of human anatomy and the way it relates to a safe, complete and breath centered yoga practice.1. Breathing – covered from anatomical, energetic and philosophical points of view; 2. Spine – its structure, function, evolution and how it relates to breathing in particular and to yoga practice in general; 3. Articular anatomy – arms, legs, hands, feet and how it all ties together with the breath and the spine.

Partner / Acro Yoga with Alex Paredes
Sunday March 25, 12:30 – 6:30 pm
In this training you will learn to incorporate Partner Yoga poses into your classes and/or create basic practices for two using the principles of safety, grounding, balance, trust and touch. You will also learn to fly with the basics of Acro Yoga, principles of bone stacking and counter balancing.Partner Yoga brings two or more people joining together to deepen the impact and experience of a yoga practice. The primary component that differentiates partner yoga from traditional yoga, is touch. We touch and are touched by others in a safe and playful way in order to build trust, which allows us to open to greater depths in our bodies and in our practice.
ISHTA DEVATAS: YOGA DEITIES & ARCHETYPES
Sundays April 1 & 8, 4:00-6:30 pm
Connect with your Ishta Devatas (Archetypes) in Yoga by relating the symbolism of Hindu and Buddhist deities to the archetypes that live within us. Through their myths, we’ll uncover hidden symbolisms and learn ways to work with them as part of a non-dualistic yogic practice. Discover how knowing and working with your archetypes can profoundly shift you, especially during moments of life transitions, and how these ancient teachings have practical relevance to your life, bringing peace of mind and uncovering our underlying common spirit. The Deities we will cover are: Saraswati, Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, Ganesha, Hanuman, Shiva, Buddha and the two Taras.
ASSIGNMENT: Teacher trainees will be asked to visit and participate in a ceremony at a Buddhist, Hindu or Sikh temple or any other spiritual/religious community that they are not familiar with and submit a brief essay of their impressions.
Chair Yoga and Use of Props with Beatrix Montanile

Chair Yoga is a gentle style of yoga that can be performed from both seated and standing positions while also incorporating the breathing and mind-body benefits of a traditional yoga class. This methodology is suitable for anyone confined to long hours of sitting as well as those with mobility issues.

Also explored will be the variety of ways that walls, blocks, bolsters and straps can be used for
finding support, stability and longevity within a yoga pose.
Restorative / RoundBody Workshop
May 5 & 6, 12:00 – 7:30 pm
Working with a yoga beginner student is difficult, let alone one who lacks in self-confidence and is experiencing chronic pain, stress and anxiety.
This hands on restorative/round-body workshop is designed to better meet the needs of the beginner/ round-bodied clients, and those with restrictions. Focusing on how to work and encourage apprehensive beginners that are apprehensive due to body image, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, tight fascia, stiff sore joints and more.

Suspension Yoga™ enhances asana practice by adding comfortable support to new dimensions of mindful movement. Instructor-trainees of The Suspension Yoga™ Teacher Training will learn fundamental tools and accredited formulas needed to teach group suspension classes in a safe, creative and fun environment. This course outlines both grounded and aerial exercises with multi-dimensional variations and grading principles making it possible for practitioners of all levels to advance their asana practice in the areas of inversions, arm balances, head stands, backbends, hip openers and more. PRACTICUM: 15 logged hours of assistance and practice teaching; Submission of a 45 minute video of one-on-one instruction demonstrating adequate knowledge in all areas of Suspension Yoga along with a $100 testing fee. (waived for 200-Hour TT participants).
ASSIGNMENT: Minimum of 6 x 90 min. practice hours (included in tuition at The Flying Yogi) All training participants will receive an additional 20% off of Class Passes for life. Out of town students may fullfill this requirement by providing written reviews of practice times.
*Students who have previously completed a Suspension Yoga T.T. at The Flying Yogi may skip this module. Their tuition will be adjusted accordingly.
Practicums are an important component of the learning process and absolutely essential to the successful completion of this course. They are designed to integrate what is learned inside the classroom with experience in real life circumstances. Certification will not be given until all Practicum assignments have been completed.
Practicum Requirements are: Attend 4 different yoga studios and submit a written report on each; 15 hours of assisting and/or practice teaching; 9 logged hours of self-practice, daily journaling of yoga, pranayama and meditation practice; a 1000 word essay and a 15 minute oral review on a book about yoga (select from the READING LIST or of your choice).

Cancellation & Refund Policies
Deposits are non-refundable unless The Flying Yogi studio cancels the course, in which case registrants are eligible for a full refund. Requests to make any registration changes must be submitted by email with “Cancellation Request” in the title bar, no later than 21 days prior to course commencement. Requests made less than 21 days before the course date are subject to a $150 cancelation or rescheduling fee. Transfer Fee: Registrants may elect to transfer their course to someone else for an additional $50 fee.
All Registrants must successfully complete all assignments and attend all classes and have paid balance in full in order to graduate. In the event of an absence, no refunds or credits, whether partial or whole, will be provided to any such registrant unless written proof of illness on physician’s letterhead is provided. Participants interested in qualifying for certification may have the option to make up for missed time after the course through additional assignments, paid private sessions or a paid review of the class at the next 200 Hour T.T. The best recourse will rest on the decision of faculty members.
