Learn to effectively communicate and teach the elements of Suspension Yoga™ to children ages 5 – 12 yrs.

When we observe children at play it is easy to see how we once behaved as human beings a long tie ago – swinging by our arms through trees, hanging upside down by our knees, doing carwheels and somersaults.

Sadly, once children begin attending schools and are forced to sit for lengthy periods of time on hard chairs at poorly designed desks or carry heavy backpacks home every day and spend hours hunched over computer monitors, this joy-filled freedom of movement gives way to an onset of postural problems.  Loss of flexibility results in a reduction in mobility.  These conditions continue to deteriorate more rapidly as the body matures, eventually resulting in chronic back issues in adulthood.

Fortunately, due to the fact that children’s skeletal systems aren’t fully set until age 12, most of these effects can be easily and quickly reversed when Suspension Yoga™ is introduced.

  • Exploring the Elements of  Yoga:
Learn how to introduce and incorporate these elements in a playful, imaginative way that makes them easy to comprehend and fun to practice.
  • Classroom Management:
Strategies on how to effectively manage a room full of energetic little bodies with calm and ease.  Topics will include rules of conduct, body awareness and mindfulness of others.
  • Introducing the YogiGym®:
Teaching the separate components and their functions, terminology and Safety Guidelines from a child’s perspective.
  • Elements of a Suspension Yoga™ Class:
Centering/Grounding/Focusing through breath connection and body awareness activities.
-Warm Ups with whole body movements that involve joints and spine.
    -Themes & Games.
    -Cool Downs and Relaxation.

DAY 2

  • Building Classes around Themes: (seedlings emerging from the earth, balancing on a tight rope, being underwater, flying high in the sky) and Games (Musical Slings, Invent a Pose, Teach a Pose, Downward Dog Tunnel)
  • Class Room Presentations: participants will prepare and present a mock class.
  • Business Tips: Discussion on launching a successful Suspension Yoga™ program for children and families.

Equipment used during the course is provided by the studio and children-sized YogiGyms® will be available for purchase at wholesale pricing after the course.

Participants must have completed the basic The Suspension Yoga™ Teacher Training with The Flying Yogi® or have certification in other aerial yoga modalities.  At the completion of the weekend a Certificate of Training will be given.

The Suspension Yoga™ for Children Teacher Training is a supplemental training to the basic Suspension Yoga™ Teacher Training and qualifies as a Continued Education Credit in compliance with Canadian Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance standards.
