Meet Armando
Chef Armando Gonzalez Ruiz grew up in the small town of Naranjos in Veracruz, Mexico. He became drawn to the kitchen at a very early age when his primary school would organize fundraising dinners for the local church. Armando loved helping in the kitchen and being part of that religious. It was here that the seeds for his future vision were planted in his mind and he decided to pursue an education in the culinary arts at The Culinary Institute of Mexico.
After graduating he worked and continued to evolve his skills in internationally recognized restaurants in the U.S. such as the Harts Boutique Restaurant in N.H, the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, FLA and the Fairmont Princess in Scottsdale, AZ.
During the pandemic, he returned to Mexico to help co-found Sabor A Mango restaurant in Mérida where he focused on developing a kitchen that highlights balanced flavours that satisfy the appetite through the senses and creating a more pleasant dining experience.
When asked what drives his passion, Armando replied: ” I love the cooking and the service because everything happens around the table. With our complements, we are part of the memories of a lot of people. I love to see people enjoy their meal, the drinks, the service, the environment and everything!
